Colloidal Chemist

This new hire will be responsible for hands-on development and characterization of carbon nanotube colloidal dispersions for use in electrically conductive coatings. This person will purify, functionalize, and disperse nanotubes, as well as characterize the effects of each step of the process. This lab-based position will require meticulous notebook and record taking for reports and patents. Additionally, the individual will contribute to group discussions on technology and product development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Characterize nanotube materials using a suite of spectroscopic and microscopic techniques
  • Purify carbon nanotubes
  • Study effect of functional groups and other additives on colloidal stability
  • Formulate carbon nanotube colloidal suspensions
  • Determine processing parameters for optimum colloid stability
  • Fabricate coatings from suspensions
  • Create structure-property correlations between nanotube raw materials and suspension properties
  • Document methods and results
  • Contribute to reports as required
  • Actively contribute to discussions on technology and product development

Minimum Job Requirements

  • 1-5 years lab-based experience with colloids and dispersions
  • BS or MS in Chemistry with a focus on colloidal, synthetic, polymer, and/or materials chemistry

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  1. Develop and maintain customer business relationships within:  DoD, DOE, other government agencies, and commercial customers
  2. Create, maintain and protect proprietary information and technologies, i.e. patents, secrecy agreements and trademarks.
  3. Promote safety, housekeeping and environmental responsibility within the firm.
  4. Participate as company technical and business representative to customers and at conferences.
  5. Provide technical advice, information and support to customers.
  6. Develop new applications for current products
  7. Expand companies core technical competency into related fields
  8. Initiate, develop, and recommend strategic technical goals and objectives for the company.
