Eikos and Takiron Announce Agreement on Transparent Conductive Coatings
FRANKLIN, MA, January 15, 2004 – Eikos, Inc. has granted a license for its Carbon Nanotube-based coatings technology to Takiron Co., Ltd. Eikos is a high performance materials company, with a special emphasis on carbon nanotube coatings. It has licensed its patented technology for transparent conductive coatings to Takiron, an affiliate of $85B Japanese general trading company Itochu Corporation. Takiron is a leading producer of polymeric materials and related products, with headquarters in Osaka, Japan. Eikos and Takiron are collaborating on the continued advancement of the technology and its commercialization.
Discussing the new license, Eikos CEO Joe Piche said, “We are extremely happy to announce this relationship with Takiron. Takiron has the technical expertise to help Eikos rapidly advance this new technology towards full commercialization. The combination of Takiron and Itochu provides strong channels to Asian markets. Equally important, Takiron had the vision to recognize the importance of this disruptive new technology, so it is fitting that they are the first licensee.”
Executive Officer of Takiron, Masato Ejiri said, “Takiron places high priority on new technology and product development and has developed expertise in the area of carbon nanotubes. The collaboration of Takiron and Eikos now makes it possible to develop high transparency conductive films for exciting new applications such as flat panel displays. We look forward to a long and successful partnership with Eikos.”
Eikos Inc. is a developer and licensor of highly transparent carbon nanotube (CNT) inks for conductive coatings and circuits for use in flat panel displays, OLED lighting, solar cells, smart windows and other established markets. Eikos’ patented InvisiconTM transparent conductors (‘nanowires’) will enable high volume, low cost production of a thinner, more flexible and more durable conductive coating technology that will displace Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) as the industry standard. A privately held company headquartered in Franklin Massachusetts, Eikos has a number of licenses and development contracts with major global companies, U.S. military agencies and NASA and is planning to establish manufacturing operations in the U.S. and Asia.
