Joe Piche, Founder of Eikos

What's in a Name?

In ancient times, men and women believed that the future was entirely in the hands of the Gods. We believed that the outcomes of our boldest ventures could neither be predicted nor controlled, except perhaps through appeal to the almighty. This fear of the unknown, and the unknowable, had a paralyzing effect on many areas of commerce and invention. In many respects the modern world began when we were first able to make predictions about the future and to 'manage' it.

In 1996, when Joe Piche formed this company, he was building a company that would be dedicated to finding ways to manage the risk of employing new technologies, specifically in the specialty materials business. That is, Joe's company would help customers and clients to successfully employ the latest high performance materials with a minimum of risk.

To reflect the plan of his new company, Joe chose the name 'Eikos', which is an ancient Greek word which meant 'probable' as in the modern sense of probablility: "To be expected with some degree of certainty." 1 Eikos is dedicated to employing technology in such a way that customers and clients can 'expect with certainty' an effective employment of the latest and best materials technologies.
